Why the Orthodox Church wooden block toy was created?
There are many wooden block toys to teach us to recognize shapes, or learn basic block building and fine-motor skills. We wanted to create a block toy that you can use to build an Orthodox Church building while learning about its main parts and understanding their main purposes.
Can I build something else from it?
Of course, you can build anything you like: a barn, a house, a garage… but first, learn how to build an Orthodox Church building from this set, and use this booklet to learn about the main parts of this building and what is happening in there…
It smells so awesome! What kind of wood is this?
We used Canadian red cedar wood to build this toy. This wood is well-known as one of the most beautiful, durable and fragrant wood species in Canada. Cedar’s aroma comes from a naturally occurring compound (Thujaplicins) in its heartwood. This compound kills fungi and preserves the wood. This is why people like to use this wood for fences, decks, boats, canoes, carving and craft work.
Why did you create the educational set about the Holy Theotokos?
Our goal is to teach children and their parents about Orthodox faith, about our church traditions. We have so many Protestant converts coming to Orthodox Church. They have very limited knowledge of the Most Holy Theotokos. This is the reason we have created this set. We believe that teaching people through hands-on lessons works best. They can learn about the life of the Holy Theotokos, spiritual lessons from her life, how to pray to her, and why we are praying to her. Decorating an icon with beautiful Bohemian crystals is an amazing experience. We hope our customers will like it.
What kind of crystals do you use in your products? They look so amazing!
There are so many crystals available on the market, but we wanted to use the best, yet affordable for our customers.
We decided to use lead-free Bohemian crystals manufactured by Preciosa. This company is located in Bohemia in the Czech Republic, also called Crystal Valley. They have been producing glass and crystal products since 1724. Their crystals are famous for their exceptional clarity and brilliance. We selected MC Chaton Rose MAXIMA flat back machine cut crystals that able to reflect 264 unique rays of light – the highest available on the market! We simply have fallen in love with the amazing beauty of Preciosa’s Bohemian Crystals, and we hope you will love them too.
